Just because the mortgage market has slowed due to high rates, Samantha Shelton of Align Lending in Detroit has not been idle. Instead, she has used this time to enhance her skills and marketing strategies, ensuring she is prepared for when rates decrease and business picks up again. Shelton understands the importance of being ready to make a significant impact in a shrinking market. Mortgage Professional America interviewed Shelton at the recent FUSE conference, organized by AIME, which provided valuable insights and inspiration from industry experts during this challenging period in the mortgage industry.

She’s committed to being at the top of her game, no matter what it takes. She wakes up early every morning to hit the gym and work on her physical fitness. She spends hours studying and researching her field, always striving to learn more and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments. She’s constantly networking and building relationships with other professionals in her industry, attending conferences and events to stay connected and informed. She’s not afraid to take risks and try new things, always pushing herself to be better and achieve more. She knows that success doesn’t come easy, but she’s willing to put in the hard work and dedication required to reach her goals.
Shelton, an active member of AIME, serves as a “state captain” for Michigan. AIME recently launched a program involving volunteers to bring about positive legislative change for brokers. Shelton is actively involved in various efforts, including advocating for the passage of the Helper Act, which aims to provide affordable homes for local protectors, educators, and responders. She is also working to reform the practice of trigger leads, which leads to unsolicited sales calls for borrowers.

Shelton’s deep involvement with AIME showcases her dedication to the trade association. Her devotion is rooted in the Spark Small Business Grant she received from AIME, which supports experienced originators in transitioning to broker-owners in the wholesale channel.

“I love AIME,” she expressed. “Without them, I wouldn’t have the opportunities I have today. From being a Spark recipient to now being a Spark mentor and a state captain, AIME has provided me with incredible opportunities, including participating in Congressional meetings and speaking at a women’s panel. If you’re not part of AIME, you’re missing out on what they offer.”
