Turn Off the Water Supply:
Locate the shut-off valve, this is usually located on the wall or floor near the base of the toilet. Turn the valve clockwise to shut off the water supply to the toilet. it may require a little elbow grease.

Remove the Tank Lid:
Lift the tank lid off and set it aside in a safe place.

Check the Flapper:
Lift the flapper (the rubber or plastic piece covering the flush valve) and inspect it for damage or debris. If it’s warped, cracked, or covered in mineral buildup, it should be replaced.

Adjust or Replace the Flapper:
If the flapper is in good condition but not sealing properly, adjust the chain that connects the flapper to the flush handle. There should be some slack in the chain, but not so much that it prevents the flapper from closing.
If the flapper is damaged, remove it and take it to a hardware store to find a matching replacement. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the new flapper.

Check the Fill Valve:
The fill valve is the assembly on the left side of the tank. Inspect it for any signs of damage or malfunction.
If the fill valve is malfunctioning, you may need to replace it. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the water supply line from the fill valve, and remove the old fill valve. Install a new one following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Adjust the Water Level:
There is usually a water level adjustment screw or clip on the fill valve. Adjust the water level to the recommended level marked on the inside of the tank. This is typically around 1 inch below the top of the overflow tube.

Turn On the Water Supply:
Turn the shut-off valve counterclockwise to restore the water supply to the toilet.

Test the Toilet:
Flush the toilet and observe its operation. Make sure the flapper seals properly, and the tank refills to the correct water level.

Replace the Tank Lid:
Once you’ve confirmed that the toilet is no longer running, replace the tank lid.
