According to the annual U-Haul Growth Index, the Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States were the preferred destinations for do-it-yourself movers in 2023. Texas continued to attract the largest number of movers, securing the top spot for the third consecutive year. Following closely behind, Florida emerged as a growth state, with North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee also experiencing significant influxes of movers. On the other hand, California witnessed the largest net loss of one-way U-Haul equipment for the fourth consecutive year, while Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts rounded out the bottom five in terms of attracting movers.
