The civil business fraud trial of former President Donald Trump, his sons, and their company, the Trump Organization, is currently in its closing arguments phase in a New York court. New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused Trump and the other defendants of engaging in a scheme to artificially inflate the values of numerous real estate assets listed on Trump’s financial statements. This alleged scheme was aimed at obtaining more favorable loan terms and resulted in the defendants gaining “hundreds of millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains.” James has requested that Judge Arthur Engoron of the Manhattan Supreme Court impose a fine of $370 million on Trump, prohibit him from participating in the state’s real estate industry indefinitely, and prevent him from holding any officer or director positions in a New York corporation. Additionally, the Attorney General seeks a five-year ban on Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, from the state’s real estate industry. Despite his initial plans, Trump will not be delivering any closing arguments on behalf of the defense.

According to his attorney, the defendant intended to present arguments; however, Engoron has prohibited him from doing so thus far. Trump’s lawyer has declined to confirm whether the former president will adhere to the limitations on his speech. Trump, who is currently leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination, maintains his innocence in the matter and asserts that he is being unfairly targeted for political reasons by James, a member of the Democratic party. The trial, which was conducted without a jury, has lasted for a duration of 44 days. Engoron is anticipated to deliver his verdict in the case within the upcoming weeks.

Prior to entering the courtroom, Donald Trump criticized Judge Arthur Engoron for his decision to deny him the opportunity to personally deliver certain closing arguments during his trial for business fraud.

Expressing his desire to address the court, Trump stated, “I am eager to speak and provide the summation.”

However, Engoron dismissed a request made by Trump’s lawyer to allow the former president to speak during the proceedings on Thursday, as Trump was unwilling to adhere to the imposed limitations on his speech.

Trump voiced his frustration, stating, “At this moment, the judge is preventing me from delivering the summation because I would bring up matters that he does not wish to hear. It is an extremely unjust trial.”

Later in the day, Trump hinted at the possibility of holding a news conference on Wall Street.
